TODAY IS POLAR PLUNGE DAY!!!!!
Please come to SHS at 4 pm and support the plungers!
Today is the final day of Respect Week 2025! While we know we will continue to learn about different disabilities “evermore,” today we will focus on Kabuki Syndrome. Kabuki Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that affects many parts of the body including the face, skeleton, brain, and heart. Symptoms can include distinctive facial features, intellectual disability, and heart problems although these symptoms can vary in severity and may appear at birth or later in life. Kabuki Syndrome occurs in about 1 in 32,000 births.
Today’s Unified fact of the day is that Respect Week has been celebrated in Illinois for over a decade. Taking this week to acknowledge each other and strengthen friendships helps set us on a path for positivity moving into the spring. Take some time today to reflect on what you have learned, what you want to know more about, and how you can make a positive difference in your school and community through the power of inclusion!

Today is day four of Respect Week 2025! Today, we are talking about Angelman Syndrome and working to be “fearless!” Angelman Syndrome is very rare, affecting only 1 in 10,000 to 1 in 24,000 births in the United States. It is a genetic syndrome that primarily affects the nervous system. People with Angelman Syndrome have developmental delays, intellectual disability, and speech impairment. It is named after Dr. Harry Angelman who first reported the syndrome in 1965. Many people with Angelman Syndrome smile and laugh often.
In hopes of catching students being fearless today, your teachers and Bulldog Buddy members will be BEADING (handing out beaded necklaces to wear) those who they see showcasing kindness, respect & inclusion throughout the school day. Each teacher has 5 to give out throughout their day! Be one of the fearless ones today and get caught doing something kind! 😊

Today, we are fully “In Our Respect Era” and celebrating Respect Day! This day was started to help increase understanding of how our word choices affect other people. Today, we use it to celebrate respect, learn about each other, and support one another in meaningful friendships. We take the Inclusion Pledge together and promise to keep inclusion at the forefront of our minds.

Today, we celebrate Day Two of Respect Week 2025! We are in our Speak Now, Speak Up! Era learning about Fragile X syndrome. Fragile X affects 1 in 4,000 females and 1 in 8,000 males in the U.S., making it the most common inherited cause of intellectual disability. Fragile X affects people’s behavior and ability to learn and retain new information. About 1/3 of those with Fragile X also display signs and symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Today, how can you Speak Now and Speak Up for your peers? When you see someone being inclusive, be sure to let them know you saw it. Please send a note, a text, a smile, or a kindness gram letting them know you appreciate them and how they helped someone feel included.
